The Game Story:
Greensboro, NC (2/7/06) -- Guilford's men's lacrosse team tied for sixth in voting by Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) coaches according to the league's preseason poll, which was released Tuesday. Roanoke, a national semifinalist last year, topped the poll with 47 points and five first-place votes. Defending ODAC champion Lynchburg was second on the list with 42 points, including one first-place vote.

Guilford head coach Andrew Rowe returns 18 letter winners from last year's squad that went 5-8, matching the program's highest win total since 1992. Last season was highlighted by the Quakers' first victory over cross-town rival Greensboro since 1996 and a victory over Virginia Wesleyan, which halted Guilford's 72-game ODAC losing streak.

Three of last season's top four points leaders return to the team, including ODAC honorable mention pick Bryan Borchard, who led the team with 29 points and was second on the club with 21 goals. Sophomore midfielder Todd Bochenek finished his rookie season with 28 points and a team-high 15 assists. Sophomore attackman Preston Gilbert was fourth on last year's squad with 19 points and ranked second with 14 assists. Sophomore Andrew Vigne, who started every game last season, returns in goal. Vigne led all ODAC goalies last year with an average of 15.69 saves per game.

The Quakers kick off the season Feb. 17 against visiting Goucher at 3:30 p.m.
