Hartwick vs. Nazareth

The Game Story:
ONEONTA, NY - Junior attackman Brandon Brown tallied four goals and sophomore attackman Bryan Coon had three goals and one assist to lead the 15th-ranked Nazareth College men's lacrosse team to a 17-9 victory over Hartwick College on Saturday at All-Weather Field.

Nazareth (6-3, 3-0 Empire 8) remains undefeated in Empire 8 Conference play with the victory, while Hartwick (7-3, 3-1) lost its first conference game of the season.

Freshman midfielder Bryan Adams opened the scoring two minutes into the first quarter to give the Golden Flyers an early lead. Hartwick senior midfielder Ryan Maloney (Downingtown HS/Downingtown, PA) tied the game three minutes later with the 100th goal of his varsity career.

The Hawks took a 2-1 lead when sophomore attackman Brian Prescott (Duxbury HS/Duxbury, MA) scored off a pass from junior attackman Kevin Geraghty (Massapequa HS/Massapequa, NY) with 5:20 remaining in the first.

Nazareth responded with a 4-0 run over the next seven minutes to take a 5-2 lead. Brown scored two goals in the run for the Golden Flyers, which also received one goal apiece from Coon and senior midfielder Jason Mordaci.

After a Hartwick goal from senior midfielder Brett Raboy (Ward Melville HS/S. Setauket, NY), Nazareth scored three straight goals to take an 8-3 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Nazareth opened with a 6-2 run over a 12:48 span to take a 14-5 lead. Hartwick then received goals from Maloney and Devin Poole (Geneva HS/Geneva, NY) to pull within, 14-7, after three quarters of play.

Nazareth, which tallied three goals in the fourth, allowed two goals in the final 15 minutes to put the Hawks away.

Prescott finished with three goals and Geraghty had a game-high four assists for Hartwick. Maloney, Raboy and Poole had two goals apiece, and freshman attackman Mike Debrossy (Westfield/Westfield, NJ) and junior midfielder Greg Cohan (Farmingdale HS/Farmingdale, NY) each had one assist.

Mordaci tallied three goals and senior midfielder David Graham had one goal and two assists for the Golden Flyers. Freshman attackman Chris Balash and senior midfielder Chris Quackenbush had two goals and one assist apiece.

Sophomore goaltender Don Green stopped seven shots to earn his sixth victory of the season for Nazareth. Hartwick junior Mark Colite (Southington HS/Southington, CT), who has a 7-3 record as a starter, registered 15 saves in 60 minutes.

Sophomore midfielder Adam Frys (Seton Catholic/Conklin, NY) won 17-of-28 face-offs for the Hawks, which will travel for an Empire 8 Conference game against eighth-ranked Ithaca College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
