The Game Story:
HAVERFORD, PA -- Haverford College's John Michals made 30 saves on 53 Franklin & Marshall College shots as the Fords upset the #10 nationally ranked Diplomats 9-5 in Centennial Conference men's lacrosse. For Haverford (6-1, 1-1 Centennial Conference) the victory marks the first in the program's history against at top ten nationally ranked team and the Fords first over the Diplomats since a 12-11 overtime win on April 15, 1998. Overall, Haverford's Eric Seideman led the way with three goals and two assists, while Joe Mauri added three goals, Ben Reed chipped in two goals and Mike Fischette tallied a goal and three assists.

The Fords jumped on the board in the first period as Mauri finished a feed from Fischette for a quick 1-0 lead at the 11:36 mark. Franklin & Marshall tied the game with 1:26 remaining in the period as Cyrus Adams (Fr., Nashville, TN/Montgomery Bell) connected on an assist from Henry Kusjanovic (So., Armonk, NY/Byram Hills). Haverford retook the lead in the second period as Mauri tallied an unassisted goal at 10:08 before Ben Reed cashed in a man-up opportunity with 3:39 left in the half for a 3-1 lead.

The teams then traded goals as Kevin Kohl (Fr., Manasquan, NJ/Loomis Chaffee) finished an assist from Vandy Vanderwarker (Sr., Keswick, VA/STAB) with 51 seconds remaining until halftime. Haverford stormed back as Reed beat F&M goalie Mike Sartorius (Jr., Summit, NJ/Summit) off an assist from Seideman with 39 seconds to go. Franklin & Marshall closed back to within a goal before the half expired, however, as Chris Wathey (Sr., South Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's) converted an assist from Steve Welsh (Jr., Lewes, DE/Cape Henelopen) for a shot that eluded Michals to trail 4-3 at halftime.

However, the Fords began to pull away as Seideman scored off a Fischette assist at the 12:01 mark of the third quarter for a 5-3 lead. The lead grew to 6-3 at 4:52 as Fischette scored off a Seideman assist as Franklin & Marshall entered the fourth quarter trailing 6-3. The Fords pushed their lead out to 7-3 with 8:39 remaining on the game clock as Seideman scored off a Max Tychen assist. F&M answered as Colin Hanley (Jr., Davidsonville, MD/DeMatha) blasted a shot from the left wing for a 7-4 score.

However, Haverford responded as Joe Mauri scored off a Mike Fischette assist for a man-down goal at the four minute mark and Seideman cashed in a Matt Keller assist at 2:52 for a man-up goal and a 9-4 lead. Franklin & Marshall closed out the scoring with 1:02 remaining as Kusjanovic tallied an unassisted goal for the 9-5 final. Statistically, the Diplomats dominated the game from the opening face-off to the final horn outshooting the Fords 53-22 and holding a 53-40 advantage in ground balls while face-off specialist Matt Capone (Jr., Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) won 16-of-18 face-offs in the contest. In goal, Sartorius made nine saves to take the loss. Franklin & Marshall (6-2, 1-1 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 10 at Muhlenberg College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
