| Charlottesville, VA - In a contest relocated to the University
of Virginia's Turf Facility, the #13 Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team
lost its season opener to #12 Ohio-Wesleyan, 16-13.
Despite holding an 11-7 lead at the end of the third period, the Hornets were unable to stop the Bishops, giving up nine goals in the final stanza. Sophomore attack Billy McCulloch (Annandale, VA/W.T. Woodson) led the way for LC with five goals and four assists. Kevin Reinecke (Crofton, MD/Arundel) netted twice with one assist, while Kip Campbell (Fork Union, VA/FUMA) tallied two scores. Goalie Paul Velte (Londonderry, VT/Vermont Academy) made seven saves in the contest. For OW (1-0), John Schlegel tallied six goals and one assist. Frank Bedford netted three goals and three assists, while Jared Law scored twice and had three assists. Lynchburg (0-1) will next face St. Mary's College (MD) at the Shellenbeger Field on Saturday, March 1st at 2:00 p.m. |
