The Game Story:
PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville men's lacrosse team dropped a 16-5 matchup to the Eastern Eagles on Saturday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field in Purchase, N.Y. Five different players found the back of the goal for the Valiants, but it wasn't enough as the Valiants fell by a lopsided margin.

The Eagles got on the board first as Eric Waibel sent the ball past Manhattanville junior goalkeeper Dom Poletto (Engelwood, Colo./Regis Jesuit) just 42 seconds into the game. Eastern went on to score three more goals before the Valiants notched their first goal of the game as freshman Connor Castleman (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) scored to make the score 4-1.

Eastern scored twice more in the first period to take a 6-1 lead into the second quarter. Junior Will Sahakian (Natick, Mass./Rivers School) trimmed the lead to 6-2 with the first goal of the period off of a pass from sophomore Brendan Kuntz (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood). The Eagles notched the next four goals of the contest with 7:48 to go in the opening half, chasing Poletto from the cage in the process. Freshman Paddy McClernon (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) came on in relief and yielded three more Eastern goals before the halftime break, as the Eagles led 13-2 at the intermission.

In the third quarter the Valiants got in the score sheet first again as senior Joe Daly (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) netted his first goal of the game to pull his squad back within 10. Zac Ivy scored a man-up tally for his second goal of the game, but freshman Corey Steimel (Wyckoff, N.J./Ramapo) came back a few possessions later for Manhattanville to make the score 14-4.

The game continued to push towards the end of regulation as neither side scored in the fourth quarter until the 8:20 mark when Eastern opened up an 11 goal cushion once again. Freshman Travis Quinones (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) scored his first career goal in his first-ever game at Manhattanville on an assist from classmate Connor Reeves. Eastern scored once more on new Valiant keeper Ray Zimlin (Graniteville, N.Y./Wyoming Seminary) to cap off the scoring and give the Eagles a 16-5 victory.

In goal Poletto suffered his tenth loss of the season against a pair of wins while allowing 10 goals and stopping eight shots, McClernon made six saves while allowing the next five goals, and Zimlin allowed one goal in just under five minutes of field time. On the opposite side of the field Aaron Benz played the first half of the game and allowed two goals while stopping three shots. Three other Eagle goalies combined to make four saves while allowing three goals.
