MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury held New England College to only one goal in the second half on their way to a 26-4 win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Panthers will host the winner of the Whittier/Eastern Connecticut State game on Sunday at 1:00.

Middlebury jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Zach Herbert and Greg Carroll. The Pilgrims cut the lead to 2-1 when Josh Dionne won the draw and beat Panther netminder Eric Krieger on a high shot. Middlebury scored six more in the quarter to take an 8-2 lead. In the second quarter, Caroll, Peter Albro and David Seeley rattled off three goals in a 19 second span to go ahead 11-2. Seeley and Mike Saraceni each scored two goals apiece in the second quarter to help give Middlebury a 15-3 lead at the break. In the third quarter, the Panthers whipped off five goals and held the PIlgrims scoreless. Four different Middlebury players found the back of the net in the fourth quarter as the Panthers earned the 26-4 win. Herbert and Saraceni led Middlebury with five goals apiece, while Seeley contributed four. Dionne tallied three for N.E.C.

In goal, Eric Krieger and Matt Levy combined for eight saves for the Panthers, while Matt Brawn had 26 saves in net for the Pilgrims
