MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury won its third straight game to start
the season as they picked up an 11-7 win over Springfield. The Panthers will
play at home again this Saturday against Connecticut College at 1:00 p.m.
The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a pair of goals from
Christopher Davis. The lead was cut to 3-2 early in the second quarter
before a pair of man-up goals made it a 5-2 Middlebury lead. Two goals in a
:48 span gave Middlebury a 7-2 with a late goal from the Pride making it a
7-3 game at the half. An even third quarter saw the Panthers outscore
Springfield 2-1 to take a 9-4 lead into the fourth quarter. A goal from Paul
Purdy cut the lead to 9-5 early in the fourth quarter, but Mike Frissora and
Ben Tobey answered for the Panthers to increase the lead to 11-5 with 10:03
remaning. Springfield scored the game's final three goals, including two in
:11 seconds to make it an 11-7 final.
Mike Saraceni led Middlebury with three goals, while Davis and
Frissora scored two apiece. Purdy tallied three goals for Springfield. Eric
Krieger made 14 saves in goal for the Panthers, while P.J. Rovinelli made 10
stops for the Pride.
