Nazareth vs. Geneseo State

The Game Story:
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (March 12, 2005) -- Second-ranked Nazareth built a 10-4 halftime advantage Saturday and withstood a second-half rally by Geneseo to take a 15-10 win over the Blue Knights in an NCAA Division III men's lacrosse game.

The win boosted Nazareth's record to 2-0. Geneseo, ranked 19th nationally, is 2-1.

Nazareth scored three times in the first quarter, then used a seven-goal outburst in the second quarter to build a 10-4 advantage. Sophomore attackman Ryan Hotaling had all six of his points in the first half on three goals and three assists and senior attackman Bryan Coon also scored three times.

Geneseo gradually worked its way back, controlling the tempo in the third quarter by outshooting Nazareth 12-2 and scoring three times. The Blue Knights then scored twice within the first 32 seconds of the fourth quarter to close within 10-9.

Nazareth junior Chris Balash interrupted the string with an unassisted score with 12:13 left, touching off a four-goal outburst that covered less than two minutes. Junior Greg Kanellis (pictured) scored off a pass from Bryan Adams just 50 seconds after Balash's goal. Freshman midfielder Matt Aloi added his first career goal with 10:31 left, then sophomore Conor O'Keefe added an unassisted goal 16 seconds later and Nazareth was comfortably ahead, 14-9. Senior midfielder Ryan Feltner closed out the Nazareth scoring with his second goal of the game off a pass from Coon with 6:38 to play.

In addition to Nazareth's three goals each from Coon and Hotaling, the Golden Flyers got two goals apiece from Balash, Feltner, and O'Keefe. Kanellis had two assists in addition to his one goal.

Owahn Bazydlo scored three goals for Geneseo and Chris Stock added two goals and four assists.

Nazareth had a 44-38 advantage in shots, but only 10 of those shots came in the second half. Junior Alex Civalier had 11 saves for the Golden Flyers. Sophomore Tim Garback had 10 saves for Geneseo.
