Nichols vs. Gordon

The Game Story:
DUDLEY, Mass.- The Gordon menís lacrosse team posted a 12-3 victory over host Nichols in The Commonwealth Coast Conference action on Saturday at Vendetti Field. The Bison played well in the opening quarter before the Fighting Scots out-scored Nichols 10-2 the rest of way. Sophomore Andrew Kirkaldy (Alberta, Canada) led Gordon with four goals and two assists.

The Fighting Scots posted two goals early in the game but the Bison were able to keep them off the board for 11 minutes and 28 seconds. Senior Lucas Wilsonís (Falmouth, Mass.) goal with 2:19 left in the first made it a 2-1 contest.

The second quarter did not go as well for the Bison as Gordon out-scored them 6-0 to take a 8-1 lead into halftime. Kirkaldy scored two of the goals while freshman Jordan MacIntosh (Ontario, Canada) and sophomore James Blue (Monticello, Minn.) also scored two each.

Kirkaldy added two more goals in the second half while freshman Ryan Pacific (Danbury, Conn.) scored both of Nichols goals. Overall, Gordon out-shot the Bison 36-16 and also had a 43-24 advantage on ground balls.

Blue finished second with Gordon with three goals while MacIntosh chipped in with two. Sophomore Joel Derechinsky (Annapolis, Md.) had a goal and team-high three assists as well.

Pacific led Nichols with his two goals and one assist. Prior to the game, Nichols honored its five seniors-Wilson, Chris Keating (Waltham, Mass.), Peter Smyth (Bradford, Mass.), Marc Colangelo (Billerica, Mass.) and Jonathan Pruell (Jamestown, R.I.).

Pruell has played in all of Nichols 26 games over the last two seasons on defense. He has picked up 30 ground balls and last season received the coachesí award. Keating has played in 36 games throughout his career, including 26 games in net. He posted 190 career saves in goal before becoming a middie for the Bison this season.

Wilson has played in 44 career games and has recorded 22 goals and 11 assists for 33 points. Smyth has tallied 55 goals and 40 assists for 95 career points in 46 games. He has picked up a total of 101 ground balls. Conlangelo has played in 35 career games for the Bison on defense. He has picked up 110 ground balls, including a team-best 51 last season

Nichols will continue conference action this Wednesday when it hosts Roger Williams at 7 p.m. Gordon will host Curry that same night.
