The Game Story:
BRISTOL, R.I. – In front of a raucous crowd on Senior Day, the Roger Williams University Men’s Lacrosse edged out a 12-10 victory Saturday afternoon over the University of New England.

The game was neck-and-neck from start to finish, with the Hawks holding a slim 4-3 lead after the first period, then a tie of five apiece going into the second half. Both teams scored three times in the third period to set up a thrilling finish.

Packy Markham (Cutchogue, N.Y.) opened up the fourth period by putting the Hawks up 9-8 after netting a pass from Dave Hurley (Hanover, Mass.). Luke DiFiore tied the game at nine in the 12th minute before Sean Benner (Narberth, Pa.) regained the Hawk lead two minutes later with a man-up goal.

The Hawks kept the Nor’Easters off the board for five minutes by DiFiore was able to notch his second score of the period at the 5:39 mark to tie the game at ten even. It didn’t take the Hawks long to score again as RWU won the ensuing face-off and scored on another Benner shot only 39 seconds later to give the Hawks an 11-10 advantage that they would not give up. Benner would add another goal with 2:34 to play to help ice the game for RWU.

Tyler Roebuck (Montgomery, N.Y.) got his seventh win of the season, making six saves on the day. Hurley led the Hawks with five goals, with Markham chipping in with four goals and Benner with three. Joe Paratore (Deer Park, N.Y.) also added a pair of assists.

Nate Porter took the loss for the Nor’Easters, stopping 12 shots. DiFiore scored three times for UNE with Dan Leyden adding two.

Roger Williams (8-4, 5-2 TCCC) hosts Anna Maria College Tuesday at 4:00 p.m., while New England (5-7, 0-6 TCCC) will play Gordon College Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
