|The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team scored four
goals in the first quarter and seven more in the second to take a
commanding lead and the Red Hawks never looked back, defeating Vassar,
18-2, in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) opener for both
teams. The game was played in Orlando, Fla.
Rensselaer, which is now 2-1, saw seven players tally at least two points,
including six with at least two goals. Senior attack Lucas Ruglis led the
way for the Red Hawks with four goals and two assists. Junior Ryan Frisch
added three goals and two assists and classmate Nick Culotti had two goals
and three helpers. Chris Sherman (2 goals, 1 assist), Adam LoGiudice (2
goals), Andrew Teichman (2 goals) and Chris Treadway (2 assists) also
recorded multiple points in the victory.
Four different goalies saw action in the cage for RPI, including freshman
starter Ryan Michels, who finished with three saves on five shots in 45
minutes. Kevin Walsh (9:05), Nick Gaetano (2:27) and Hudson Brower (2:27)
also played for the Red Hawks.
For Vassar (1-1), senior Pat McAlpine had a goal and an assist, Thomas
Boardman scored once and Phil Szela picked up an assist. Freshman Will
Widen made 18 saves in the loss.
