|The University of New England erased an early 2-1 deficit en route to a 7-5 non-conference victory over the Vikings this afternoon at Alumni Field.|
The Nor'easters (3-1) snapped a 5-5 fourth period deadlock by scoring twice during the game's final five minutes. Sophomore middie Michael Woods netted the eventual game-winner with 4:49 to play. Senior attackman Dan Leyden, who scored four goals, added his final tally with just 1:39 left on the clock.
SSC (2-3) jumped out to its early 2-1 lead on goals by senior middie Paddy Boscoe (Dartmouth, Mass.) at 1:56 and junior attackman Justin Jones (Danvers, Mass.) at 5:29. The Nor'easters would score the next two goals for a 4-2 lead after one period. The Vikings outscored the visitors, 2-1, during the second period with senior middie Scott Aronian (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Jones picking up the goals. UNE held a 5-4 lead at the half.
Leyden would net the only goal of the third period at 13:27. SSC junior middie Rob Mulroy (Swampscott, Mass.) would tie (5-5) the match at 7:49 after being set up by sophomore attackman Jon Falls (Seekonk, Mass.). Senior middie Sal Silva (Lynn, Mass.) and sophomore middie Anthony DeLeo (North reading, Mass.) each recorded an assist for the Vikings. Sophomore goaltender Brendan Gill (Chelmsford, Mass.) made 16 saves for the Vikings while senior Andrew Briggs made nine stops for the Nor'easters.
SSC's next match will Saturday, March 28 when the Vikings travel to UMass Boston for a 1:00 pm Little East Conference (LEC) contest against the Beacons.
