|WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University held a one-goal lead after the first period of its Pennsylvania Athletic Conference contest with visiting Villa Julie Tuesday night, but VJC scored the final 13 goals of the game to take a 14-2 victory before 114 fans at Shentel Stadium.|
Shenandoah (3-8, 0-5) seemed primed for an upset over the PAC co-leader after taking 2-1 lead with 1:22 left on the first on James Hernandez' (Blue Ridge Summit, Pa./HCC) goal off an assist from Elmer Baker (Fort Montgomery, NY/O'Neill), but the Mustangs roared back in the second.
VJC (8-1, 5-0) tied the game on a Ryan Dengler goal 18 seconds into the period and went ahead for good when Dan Valez converted off of a feed from Nate Montanye 3:46 later.
The visitors pulled away with three more goals before halftime and then scored twice in the third and six times in the fourth. The Mustangs also helped themselves during the middle two quarters by outshooting Shenandoah 27-12, including 17-6 in the second.
Dengler, Velez and Todd Smith each finished with three goals while Montanye had two goals and three assists.
Villa Julie outshot SU 45-33, won 11 of the games 19 face-offs and had 35 groundballs to the Hornets 26.
SU goalie Dave Behan (Holtsville, NY/Sachem) kept his squad in it with 16 saves in 53 minutes of action.
