The Game Story:
HOBOKEN, N.J. Ė Sophomore attack Mark Bielicky (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored five goals and freshman attack John Dolny (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) had four goals and three assists as the 18th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology menís lacrosse team opened its season with a 14-6 win over Widener University on Saturday at DeBaun Field.

After Widener (0-1) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by freshman midfielder Luke Weber with 13:51 left in the first quarter, Stevens (1-0) scored the next seven goals to take a commanding 7-1 lead. Bielicky tied the game with 12:36 left in the first quarter and Dolny followed with three straight goals in a span of 6:30.

Trailing by six goals, Widener scored the final four goals of the second quarter to trim the Stevens lead to 7-5 at halftime. Weber, who led the Pioneers with three goals, scored an extra-man goal with 8:38 left in the third quarter to cut the Stevens lead to one. That was the last goal that Widener scored.

Stevens, which scored seven straight goals in the first half, closed the game with seven straight goals to pull away. Bielicky, who led the Ducks with 42 goals last season, scored the final two goals of the third quarter and the initial goal of the fourth quarter to extend the Stevens lead to 10-6.

The Ducks pulled away with four goals in the final 6:18.

Stevens held a 45-30 advantage in shots and a 40-23 advantage in ground balls. Junior midfielder Jay Wells (Shaftsbury, Vt./Mount Anthony Union) won 17 of 24 face-offs and picked up 16 ground balls to lead the Ducks.

Sophomore Andrew Johnson stopped 17 shots for Widener. Sophomore Jack Dunderdale (Ridgefield, Conn./Immaculate) made 12 saves for Stevens.

The Ducks are back in action on Saturday, March 5, when they host Alfred in an 11 a.m. game at DeBaun Field.
