| SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Senior midfielder Erik Reckdenwald (Glen Aubrey, N.Y./Whitney Point) scored five goals and sophomore attack Eliot Dahood (Memphis, Tenn./Peddie School-N.J.) added three goals and one assist to lead the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s lacrosse team to a 14-6 win over Swarthmore College on Saturday at Clothier Fields.
The game was the season opener for both teams. Stevens took control in the opening quarter, jumping out to a 4-0 lead on two goals each by Dahood and Reckdenwald. The Ducks scored three goals in a span of 2:06. Dahood, who returned after missing the entire 2003 season due to injury, scored the initial goal with 9:29 left. Reckdenwald scored at the 7:45 mark and Dahood tallied again 22 seconds later. Senior midfielder Matt Kuppe (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) had three of his game-high five assists in the first quarter. Stevens extended its lead to 8-2 at halftime as Reckdenwald scored two more goals in the second quarter. Dahood, Reckdenwald and freshman attack Joe Van Sickle (Hampton, N.J./Peddie School) added third-quarter goals as the Ducks built a comfortable 11-3 lead going into the final period. Stevens built a 10-goal lead as freshman Mark Bielicky (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan), sophomore Stephen Pascone (Selkirk, N.Y./Albany Academy) and Kuppe scored early in the fourth quarter to put the Ducks in front 14-4. Swarthmore received goals in the final three minutes from John Cleaver and Jay Charles to trim the final deficit to 14-6. Stevens held a commanding 56-27 advantage in shots. The Ducks also converted on five of their six extra-man opportunities. Senior Matt Cannon (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) stopped 11 shots in goal for the Ducks. Stevens Isbister made 21 saves for Swarthmore. Stevens is back in action on Saturday, March 6, when it hosts Franklin & Marshall College at 1 p.m. at DeBaun Field |
