Union vs. Hartwick

The Game Story:
SCHENECTADY, NY Ė The Hartwick menís lacrosse team registered four goals in the third quarter to claim a 10-8 victory over Union College Wednesday evening at Frank Bailey Field. Senior captain Rob Oram (New Canaan, CT/ New Canaan) made a season-high 18 saves in the loss, while the Dutchmen received two goals each from Chris Collison (Trumbull, CT/ Trumbull), Scott Garibaldi (Summit, NJ/ Summit) and Matt Douglas (New York, NY/ The Hotchkiss School).

Union (3-6, 0-2 Liberty League) took a 2-1 lead midway through the first quarter on an early goal by Bill Condon (West Hartford, CT/ Conard) and Douglasís first score of the game, and held a a 3-2 lead headed into the second frame on Collisonís first tally.

Hartwick (7-4) registered three goals in the second quarter before the Dutchmen rattled off two to hold the game in check at 5-5 at the half. Steve Caramello (Duxbury, MA/ Duxbury) tallied a man-up goal at 10:29 to spark the scoring for the Hawks, and picked up his second goal of the game less than five minutes later. Pat McCormack (Camillus, NY/ West Genesee) added his second goal of the evening at 4:49 to give the Hawks the brief lead.

Douglas brought the Dutchmen back within one with 1:13 left to play in the half before Garibaldi scored off the feed from Collison as the halftime horn sounded.

Kyle Tilley (Hamilton, MA/ Hamilton-Wenham) put Union ahead just 41 seconds into the second half with an unassisted goal, but the Hawks scored four goals in the following four and a half minutes to take a 9-6 lead.

Collison brought Union within two with an unassisted goal with 6:39 remaining in the third quarter, and Garibaldi put the Dutchmen within striking distance with 4:40 left to play in the game.

Hartwickís Brandon Wilk (Hillsborough, NJ/ Hillsborough) sealed the game with a wide-open net goal off a turnover that McCormack had collected as Union tried to clear.

Oram made four saves in each of the first quarters, and combined for 10 in the second half. John Meade (Ocean Beach, NY/ Islip) made 18 saves in the game, including seven in the final frame.

Union resumes Liberty League play in a 1 p.m. game at Skidmore on Saturday, April 14.
