|The Game Story:|
|Kings Point, NY - Led by the Doughtery brothers combined 11 points, the United States Merchant Marine Academy lacrosse team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 9-1 smack down of the Vassar College Brewers.|
The Mariners set the tone instantly with Robert De Pol putting Kings Point on the board less than three minutes into the game. Jim Flannery made it a 2-0 affair less than one minute later, followed by three straight goals from Sean Doughtery as the Mariner went into recess sporting a 5-0 edge.
USMMA added four more in the third period. Flannery tallied his second of the night at 9:37 remaining in the third. Brennan Doughtery scored his lone goal of the night 53 seconds later to add to his four assists.
Vassar's (1-2) Steven Cataldo put an end to the shutout with 6:29 left in the third. Doughtery (Sean) added two more for good measure for his 21st and 22nd tallies of the season to seal it for the Mariners.
The defensive unit did a splendid job in front of John Pagano via keeping the speedy Vassar offenders off the net. USMMA outshot the Brewers, 38-15.
Kings Point (4-0, 1-0 Knickerbocker) returns to action over the weekend for two games. On Saturday and Sunday KP will be put to the test in Colorado Springs, Co., versus Colorado and Whittier Colleges.
