March 8, 2006
The Game Story:
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Junior attackman Grant Martin (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) scored three goals and assisted on another in leading Washington and Lee to a 12-4 win over 15th-ranked Ithaca College in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.

The Generals (2-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead early in the second quarter on the strength of two goals and one assist from Martin. The Bombers (1-1) got on the board with 8:31 left in the first half on an unassisted goal by senior attackman Brandon Geluso (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields), but W&L countered with three more tallies in the final 7:05 of the half for a 7-1 lead at the break.

Geluso started the second half scoring with another unassisted goal, but the Generals responded with three straight markers, including a pair by freshman midfielder Harry St. John (Essex Falls, N.J./West Essex) for a 10-2 lead. Junior goalkeeper Chris Lalli (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton) would make seven saves in the final period to keep the Bombers at bay.

Lalli finished the game with 17 saves, including several spectacular stops, for his best outing of the season. Sophomore attackman Ned Rider (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Collegiate) aided Martin's effort with two goals and one assist, while senior attackman Clark Finney (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) registered three assists.

Ithaca was led by Geluso's two goals. Junior Dennis Butler (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) was also tremendous in goal, recording 19 stops.

Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it hosts seventh-ranked Washington College for a 7:00 pm contest at the W&L Turf Field.
