| LEXINGTON, Va. ^× The Washington and Lee defense pitched a shutout for
the first 56:36 of the game en route to a 9-1 win over Randolph-Macon in
ODAC men's lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Wilson Field.
The Generals (7-3, 3-2) jumped out to a 6-0 first half advantage as sophomore attackman Gavin Molinelli (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and junior attackman Matt Fink (Wilmington, Del./Tatnall) combined for three goals and three assists in the opening 30 minutes of action. W&L added one more tally in the third period while limiting the Yellow Jackets (3-9, 1-5) to no shots in the stanza, then added two more goals in the fourth quarter before R-MC freshman midfielder P.C. Johnsen (Laurel, Md./Hammond) ended the scoring on an unassisted goal with 3:24 remaining in the game. Fink led the Generals' offense with one goal and four assists, while Molinelli finished with two goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Rob Brown (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) added two goals and junior midfielder Mark McLewee (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) chipped in with a pair of assists. Junior Ansel Sanders (Weems, Va./Woodberry Forest) stopped six shots in 60 minutes of action. W&L held advantages of 34-11 in shots, 36-25 in ground balls and 10-4 in faceoffs. Senior F.J. Federico (Phoenix, Md./Boys' Latin) posted 10 saves in goal for the Yellow Jackets. Washington and Lee returns to action on Saturday as it travels to Virginia Wesleyan for a 1:00 pm contest. |
