| SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior co-captain Patrick Matthews (Middle Island,
NY) had four goals and an assist, and classmate CJ Annunciata (Waltham,
MA) added three goals and four assists to lead top-seeded Western New
England College to an easy 15-3 victory over eighth-seeded
UMass-Dartmouth in a quarterfinal round game of the 2004 ECAC Division
III New England Tournament.
Freshman Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) chipped-in with three goals and an assist while senior co-captain Marco Le Gette (Severna Park, MD) contributed two goals (including the 100th of his career) and an assist. With the victory, the Golden Bears improved their record to 12-7 that ties as the second highest win total in the program's 23-year history. (The 2002 squad went 12-5 in John Klepacki's first season as head coach.) WNEC led 6-0 after the first period, 9-3 at half-time, and 12-3 after the third stanza. Sophomore Jeff Boudreau (Newton, MA) led the Corsairs (7-7) with two goals while senior Kevin Sawula (Northampton, MA) had two assists. WNEC will host the semifinals and championship rounds of the tournament Saturday and Sunday. Pairings and game times will be announced. |
