| SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ? Senior Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) scored six goals and had three assists as the Western New England College men?s lacrosse team opened its season with a 13-6 non-league victory over visiting Union College Saturday afternoon. Cherry also moved into second place on the school?s all-time list with 153 career goals. Junior Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH) contributed three goals and two assists while sophomore Scott Kukis (Sudbury, MA) also tallied three goals with an assist. Union took a 1-0 lead on a goal by junior Chris Collison (Trumbull, CT) at 9:31 of the opening period. The Golden Bears came back to take a 3-1 lead after the first period and 5-2 advantage at half-time. Collison finished with three goals while senior Bill Condon (West Hartford, CT) chipped in with two goals and an assist. Junior goalie Chris Body (Newtown, CT) stopped 10 shots for the Golden Bears while senior Rob Oram (New Canaan, CT) made 11 saves for the Dutchmen (1-1). |
