The Game Story:
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Brody Savoie (Wilbraham, MA), sophomore Marty O’Brien (West Springfield, MA), and freshman Tajh Russell (Agawam, MA) each scored three goals to lead top-seeded Western New England College to a 17-5 victory over eighth-seeded University of New England in a quarterfinal round game of The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Men’s Lacrosse Championship Tuesday evening (April 28).

The Golden Bears, ranked 12th nationally, ran their winning streak to eight games in raising their record to 14-2.

Freshman Nick Jez (Somers, CT) and O’Brien each scored in the opening two minutes and WNEC was off and running in taking a commanding 10-0 lead after the opening period.

Freshman Andrew Mariani (East Brunswick, NJ) also had a three-point outing with two goals and an assist while junior Tim Santye (Skillman, NJ) contributed a pair of goals.

Freshman Joe Martin (Springfield, MA) chipped-in with seven ground balls and won all eight face-offs. Junior Bill Greider (South Windsor, CT) also picked-up seven ground balls.

Sophomore Luke Fiore (Gloucester, MA) scored twice and classmate Michael Woods (Kittery Point, ME) had a goal and assist for the Nor’easters who finished their season with a 6-10 record.

Western New England College will host fifth-seeded Salve Regina (a 14-6 winner over fourth-seeded New England College) at 4:00 p.m. Thursday (April 30) in a semifinal round contest.

Second-seeded Endicott hosts third-seeded Roger Williams in the other semifinal game Thursday afternoon.
