Widener vs. Cabrini

The Game Story:
3/8/06 -- No. 13 Widener gave up a goal from Matt Conaway 2:43 into the third overtime in a gutwrenching 12-11 loss to Cabrini at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.

Conaway received a pass from Matt Campbell and fired a shot past junior Mike Cozza (Ridgewood, NJ) for Cabrini’s only lead of the match. It was Conaway’s third goal of the game as he forced overtime on a tally with 55 seconds left in regulation off a feed from Kevin Rayer.

Widener (1-2) appeared in the driver’s seat on a goal from senior Todd Fairlie (Broomall, PA) early in the fourth quarter for a 10-8 lead. Cabrini (2-1), which was down by three on two different occasions, got a goal from Beau Nickerson with 6:03 to play in regulation for a 10-9 margin.

Junior Gavin Goane (Springfield, PA) scored for Widener with 2:52 left for an 11-9 game before Rayer, who had a game-high three assists, netted his third of the contest 20 seconds later.

Cozza suffered a tough loss after making 12 saves, including four in the overtimes. Goane and sophomore Brian Stromko (Maplewood, NJ) each scored three times for Widener.

Kevin Quinn stopped 12 shots for the Cavaliers.

Widener hosts reigning national champion Salisbury on Wednesday, March 15 at 3:30 pm.
