SPARTAN FIELD-YORK COLLEGE-YORK, PA-The York College men's lacrosse team earned a hard fought 14-12 victory over DeSales University Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Field in a non-conference matchup.
The Spartans got on the board early with a goal by Pat Wynne (Mt. Airy, MD/South Carroll) just over a minute into the game. The Bulldogs responded with a goal of their own on Ryan Barratt's tally. This would be the first of six ties in a game where neither team seemed to be able to gain the upperhand. DeSales gained their first lead of the game with 2:15 left in the first period as Brian Kuttler fired a shot past Spartan goalie Evan Mazzocchi (Swarthmore, PA/Strath Haven). Scott Hermes (New Freedom, PA/Mervo) notched his 42nd goal of the season to even the game at two goals apiece after the first period of play. The second period was highlighted by goals from John Cannon (Silver Spring, MD/Gonzaga College) and Brendan Brace (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage). The Bulldogs, however, recorded three goals in the second stanza to give them a 5-4 lead going into the half.

Hermes, Pat Wynne, and Brace gave York the three goal lead, their first lead since early in the first period. DeSales clawed their way back into the game with four straight goals over the stretch of six minutes to take back the lead, 12-11 at 5:26. At 4:39, Kemper scored a clutch goal to even the game up, the final tie of the contest. Ricky Cherba (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) and Brace scored two final goals for the Spartans to put the game out of reach.
