|CORTLAND DEFEATS BROCKPORT MEN'S LACROSSE, 11-2
Golden Eagles fall to 4-5, 1-3 in the SUNYAC|
BROCKPORT, NY -- The Cortland State Red Dragons men's lacrosse team defeated the Brockport Golden Eagles 11-2 this afternoon at Special Olympic Stadium on the campus of SUNY Brockport. With the win #6 nationally ranked Cortland improves to 10-2, 4-0 in the SUNYAC while Brockport falls to 4-5, 1-3 in the conference.
The Golden Eagles trailed by just two goals after the first period, 3-1 but the Red Dragons outscored Brockport 4-0 in the second period to take the 7-1 lead at the half. Cortland outshot the Golden Eagles 51-21 and had the 30-22 advantage on ground balls.
Craig Degnan (Rockville Centre/South Side) led the Red Dragons in scoring with three goals and an assist. Freshman Kyle Lambert (Brentwood/Brentwood) and junior Mike Bryant (Hamburg/Frontier Central) each had two goals in the win and sophomore Adam Hughes (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) had four assists and one goal.
Freshman Mike Beach (Liverpool/Liverpool) and senior Ben Bullock (Maine/Maine Endwell) were the two goal scorers for the Golden Eagles. Beach was assisted by Frank LaSala (Potsdam/Potsdam).
Sophomore John Contratto (Lowville/Lowville Academy) had five saves and six goals against in 23 minutes. Freshman Jim Amell (North Syracuse/Cicero-North Syracuse) made 11 saves with five goals against in the final 37 minutes. Cortland's Steve Feltmann (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) had 10 saves and two goals against in the win.
The Golden Eagles play their second and final home game of the season this Saturday as they host Geneseo at 1 p.m.
