The Game Story:
Southern Maine Pulls Away from Plymouth State, 17-8

GORHAM, Maine -- Sophomore Tim Bryant (Peterborough, N.H.) had three
goals and a record tying six assists to lead the University of Southern Maine
past Plymouth State University, 17-8, in a Little East Conference men's lacrosse
game Tuesday afternoon at Hodgdon Field.
The win was the Huskies first on 10 games against the Panthers, and snapped
a two-game losing streak. The Huskies improve to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the
conference. The six wins is a single season record for the program. The
Panthers, who had a two-game winning streak halted, slip to 4-5 overall and 2-2
in LEC play.
Bryant scored all three of his goals in the first half to help USM build a
7-4 lead by halftime. His six assists, five coming in the second half, equaled
the USM single-game record set by Nick Rich in 2002 and equaled last season by
senior Preston Gilbert (Saco, Maine/Cheverus).
Sophomore Chris Gassman (Kennebunk, Maine) and junior Josh Reinhold (Tampa,
Fla.) also had three goals for USM. Freshmen Kayle Hamilton (Buxton, Maine/Bonny
Eagle) and Willie Joy (Portland, Maine/Deering) added two goal apiece. Senior
goalie James Suriyodorn (Deer Park, N.Y.) recorded 12 saves.
Junior Brian Giroux (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H./Brewster Academy), sophomore
Andrew Eriksen (Beverly, Mass.) and senior Jordan Buzzell (Bath, Maine/Morse)
led PSU with two goals apiece. Eriksen also had two assists. Senior Conor
McCullough (Dover, N.H./Oyster River) contributed a goal and an assist. Goalies
Billy Morgan (Winchester, Mass.) and Jack Tyo (East Sandwich, Mass.) combined to
make 11 saves for PSU.
Leading by two, 9-7, following a goal by PSU junior Adam Rothbart
(Portland, Maine/Deering) with 59 seconds to play in the third quarter, the
Huskies would score eight unanswered goals to pull away. Gassman scored twice
before the third quarter ended, and tallied his third in the opening minute of
the fourth to make it 12-7.
Southern Maine is back in action on Thursday (4:00 p.m.) when it host Maine
Maritime Academy. Plymouth State is at New England College on Thursday (4:00
