Moravian vs. Desales

The Game Story:
The Moravian College menís lacrosse team couldnít make an early lead stand up as the Greyhounds fell to DeSales University, 16-11, in their non-conference home opener at a chilly Rocco Calvo Field Wednesday afternoon.
Moravian scored the first goals of the match, tallies from junior midfielder David Forte and junior attack David Bennett, pictured at right, 19 seconds apart before the Bulldogs scored five in a row to take a 5-2 lead after 15 minutes of action. The Greyhounds added three man-up goals, two from Bennett, and a total of four goals in the second quarter to tie the match at 6-6 at halftime.
DeSales freshman midfielder Whit Bruemmer scored three of his match high seven goals in the third quarter as the Bulldogs led 9-8 after 45 minutes. DeSales ran off five goals to start the fourth quarter including three from sophomore attack Michael Bassani in a span of 23 seconds to take a 14-8 lead. Moravian netted three man-up goals to pull within three goals with 2:22 remaining before DeSales tallied the final two goals of the match.
Bruemmer had seven goals to lead all scorers for the Bulldogs while Bassani added three goals and an assist. Senior midfielder Jarryd Stamatelos had two goals and two assists as he transitioned from playing in goal to in the field for DeSales while senior midfielder Kevin Walker had a team high four assists to go with a goal for DeSales. Walker won 19-of-30 face-offs and added a match high ten ground balls for the Bulldogs while sophomore long stick midfielder Brendan Guerrier had nine ground balls to go with a pair of assists.
Junior midfielder Robert Devine, pictured at left, and Bennett each had three goals and two assists to lead Moravian while Forte added two goals. The three goals give Devine 50 for his career, the seventh player in school history to net 50 career goals. Sophomore attack Sean McInerney contributed to goals for the Greyhounds while junior attack Christopher Mohapp added a goal and two assists. Sophomore long stick midfielder Jesse Peterson also had an assist for the Greyhounds.
Devine led Moravian with five ground balls and five face-off wins while freshman midfielder Michael Falco won six face-offs and added a pair of ground balls. Peterson and sophomore defender Kevin Jordan each had five ground balls for the Greyhounds.
DeSales had a 49-31 edge in shots, a 40-33 edge in ground balls and won 19-of-31 face-offs in the match. Bulldog freshman goalie Jacob Nyenhuis had six saves in his first career start while Moravian junior keeper Benjamin Leavy had 11 saves.
