| COLONIALS CRUISE PAST UMASS BOSTON, 14-5 DANBURY, CT- The Western Connecticut State University’s men’s lacrosse defeated UMass Boston 13-4 for its third win in the Little East Conference at the Westside Athletic Complex Saturday afternoon. The Colonials, now third in the Little East Conference at 8-3 and 3-2 in league play, led 2-0 after the first quarter before they scored six goals in the second period, all by different players, to take a convincing 8-0 lead heading into intermission. The Colonials were led by freshman midfielder Dennis Skarda (Danbury, CT) as he scored three goals on the afternoon. Skarda also added two assists in the win. Jeremy Salley (Norwalk, CT) had two goals and one assists for three points for WestConn. Also having a big game for the Colonials was freshman midfielder Vince Bevilaqua (Branford, CT), who scored a career-high three goals and added one assist. The Beacons, now 7-3 overall and 2-3 in the LEC, was led by two-time LEC Offensive Player of the Week Ryan O’Rourke (Milton, MA) with two goals and one assist. Scott Fox (New Rochelle, NY) had a good performance during his last home game on Senior Day, making nine saves while facing 27 shots. Nick Eaton (Rowley, MA) made 15 saves for the Beacons. WestConn, who is currently the highest scoring team in the LEC, will play their final two games on the road against Daniel Webster on Tuesday and UMass Dartmouth next Saturday before finding out if they will host their first conference tournament game which will be on May 3rd. |
