Depauw vs. Olivet

The Game Story:
GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Olivet College men's lacrosse team ended its inaugural season with a 22-7 win over DePauw (Ind.) University today at Boswell Field in Greencastle, Ind.

The Comets raced out to a 2-0 lead before the Tigers scored twice in a span of 50 seconds to level the score at 2-2. DePauw was never able to take the lead, as Olivet netted the final three goals of the opening quarter and the first two of the second quarter to take a 7-2 lead.

After DePauw scored with 10:44 left in the second stanza, the Comets ended the half on a 5-0 run for a 12-3 lead at the break. Both teams scored three goals in the third quarter to keep the Olivet lead at nine, 15-6. The Comets out-scored the Tigers, 7-1, in the last quarter, including four goals in the final two minutes and 45 seconds of the game.

Freshmen Cameron Bazin and Jack Ranson each had scored five goals and added two assists for seven total points. Freshman James Collins led all players with seven goals. Freshman Matt Arb had a game-high four assists to go along with two goals for six points. Freshman Joseph Brown had a goal and an assist for two points, while freshmen Sheldon Berry and Ingmar Kleinbannink each netted one goal.

Bazin, Ranson and Collins finished with 16, 15 and 14 shots, respectively, as Olivet out-shot the Tigers by a 59-29 margin. In the cage, sophomore Ryan McGee and freshman Hunter Teare played the first and second half, respectively. McGee made six saves, while facing 15 shots. Teare collected three saves on 14 shots.

The Comets finish their first-ever varsity season with a 10-7 overall record. Individually, Bazin topped the team with 99 points (69 goals and 30 assists), 208 shots, 127 shots on-goal, 10 man-up goals and 144 ground balls. Collins was second with 70 points (63 goals and seven assists). Arb had 68 points on 25 goals and a team-leading 43 assists.
