POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. Costly turnovers plagued the Bryant University men's lacrosse team throughout Wednesday's NCAA First Four contest and No. 20 Marist took an early lead it would never relinquish as the Bulldogs fell to the Red Foxes, 10-6, at Tenney Stadium. Marist (14-3) now advances into the NCAA First Round and will take on second-seeded Syracuse in the Carrier Dome Sunday night on ESPNU (7:30 p.m.). The Bulldogs finish the 2015 campaign with an 8-10 overall record. A patient Marist offense opened up a 5-1 advantage through the first 15 minutes of the opening quarter, with the Bulldogs' only score coming from rookie midfielder Tom Kennedy (Farmingdale, N.Y.). Sophomore attack Tucker James (Essex Fells, N.J.) would take a pass from junior linemate Shane Morrell (Glen Mills, Pa.) at the doorstep, juking out goalie Dave Scardello (14 saves) to get the visitors' second score of the day with 2:16 to play in the stanza. Bryant's struggles continued into the second, including a three-minute possession in which the Bulldogs would come up empty. Marist would get the only two tallies of the frame, wrapping up first-half scoring when Michael Begley fed J.D. Recor waiting on the edge of the crease for a one-timer the sophomore whipped past Bulldog netminder Gunnar Waldt (Freeland, Md.) for a 7-2 lead that would stick through the intermission. Waldt finished the contest with a season-high 16 stops. Sophomore midfielder Tom Forsberg (Huntington, N.Y.) would get on the board to open the third, taking a pass from junior linemate Collins Gantz (Denver, Colo.) three minutes in and firing it past Scardello to close Bryant's deficit to 7-3. Marist responded, capitalizing on another Bulldog turnover with a goal from leading scorer Joseph Radin at the seven-minute mark, but rookie midfielder Kenny Massa (Huntington, N.Y.) would bring the margin back to four, 8-4, just over a minute later, firing a shot in transition that hit netting just inside the post. Kennedy cut the Bulldog deficit to 8-5 with just more than 12 minutes left in regulation, burning a hole through the Marist net off a feed from Forsberg. The Red Foxes would find the back of the net twice more before Forsberg got back on the board with his second of the day in unassisted fashion with 5:17 remaining, but it would be the last tally of the evening, as Marist held on through the final whistle for the 10-6 victory. Marist outshot Bryant, 39-29, including a 14-6 mark in the first stanza, and went 19-for-20 on the clear. Behind a 13-of-20 performance from senior faceoff specialist Kevin Massa (Huntington, N.Y.), the Bulldogs dominated at the X and in the ground ball game, 28-23. Massa picked up a game-high nine ground balls. The Bulldogs went 0-for-5 on extra man opportunities, and turned the ball over 19 times to Marist's seven. Bryant went just 13-of-18 on the clear.
