Sophomore Samuel Mishkind (Chappaqua, N.Y.) scored three times and visiting Babson College got goals from 11 different players on its way to defeating Emerson College, 15-1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at Rotch Field. With the win, Babson improves to 8-8 overall and 3-3 in conference play, while Emerson slips to 4-7 overall and 0-5 in the NEWMAC. Junior Axel Brown (Little Compton, R.I.) and first-year Thomas Jung (Vienna, Va.) both scored twice, while sophomore Niall Dillon (Duxbury, Mass.) added a goal and two assists for the Beavers. Junior John Gilbert (Ellicott City, Md.) won 6-of-11 face-offs, classmate Jack O'Donoghue (Scituate, Mass.) scooped up seven ground balls and fellow junior Joseph Riccardi (Ridgewood, N.J.) caused a team-high four turnovers. Sophomore Marshall Tate (Taunton, Mass.) led all players with nine ground balls and four caused turnovers for the Lions, who got their only goal of the game from classmate Jared Brush (Grosse Point Park, Mich.). Mishkind scored twice in the opening two minutes and sophomore Brendan Duffy (Duxbury, Mass.) and junior Austin Fabel (East Rockaway, N.Y.) added goals just 43 seconds apart, both assisted by first-year Owen Allen (Franklin, Mass.), to make it 4-0 midway through the opening quarter. First-year Ryan Godfrey (Dover, Mass.) scored his first career goal a minute later and Jung converted a feed by senior Brennen Walker (Scituate, Mass.) to extend the lead to 6-0 after one frame. The Green and White led 9-0 at the half and extended its advantage to 11 behind goals from first-year Matthew MacCune (Braintree, Mass.) and Brown early in the third. Brush got Emerson on the board with 7:54 to go in quarter, but Gilbert and Walker both notched their first markers of the year as Babson outscored the Lions 4-0 in the fourth. First-year goaltender Christopher Aranalde (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made two first-half saves for the Beavers, while sophomore Bailey Kennedy (Swampscott, Mass.) turned away 14 shots for Emerson. Both teams return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. as Babson visits Coast Guard, while Emerson travels to Clark.
