POUGHKEEPSIE, NY In the final road contest of the season, the NJIT men's lacrosse team dropped a 20-4 decision at Marist Saturday at Tenney Stadium. Leading the way for NJIT was Joe Lomeli, who finished with two goals and one assist. The freshman scored in his 11th straight game of the season. Freshmen Ryan Bradway and Liam Derkasch added one goal apiece for the Highlanders, and Gabe Giovanello and Tyler Baggett recorded an assist. Freshman Jake Smolokoff tallied his first point of the season with an assist on Lomeli's first goal. Sophomore J.D. Recor, senior Colin Joka and junior Joseph Radin led Marist offensively. Radin and Joka each scored four goals while Record scored three goals and added four assists. NJIT freshman goalkeeper Nick Marzullo collected seven saves. Marist senior Dave Scarcello recorded four saves, in just fewer than 50 minutes of playing time and junior Dylan Woods tallied three saves in 10:21 minutes of action. The Red Foxes piled on eight unanswered goals in the first quarter, with two goals each from Recor and Radin. Derkasch got the Highlanders on the board with 1:23 remaining in the first quarter on a pass from Baggett. Derkasch got one more chance in the closing seconds of the quarter with a hard shot that was saved by Scarcello, ending the quarter with the Red Foxes leading 8-1. Marist opened up the scoring in the second quarter with a goal from Joka. NJIT answered at 10:19 with a man-up goal by Bradway, assisted by Lomeli. The Red Foxes would tally three more goals in the quarter, going into halftime with a 12-2 lead. Freshman Gannon Morrison scored his first goal of the game to start up the third quarter for Marist with the assist by John Vigh. The Red Foxes added five more goals by four different Red Foxes extending their lead to 17-2. NJIT's Lomeli scored his 17th goal of the season with eight seconds remaining in the third quarter to make the score 17-3 heading into the fourth quarter. Marist scored three unanswered in the fourth quarter. Lomeli scored his second goal of the game with 3:28 left in the fourth quarter off a pass from Giovanello. Marist went on to win 20-4.
