MACON, Ga. Duke junior midfielder Myles Jones scored three goals and added four assists and Luke Aaron made 19 saves to lead the third-ranked Blue Devils to a 16-6 win at Mercer in non-conference lacrosse action this afternoon at Anderson Field. The win was the 350th of head coach John Danowski's career. Jones has at least five points in all four games for Duke (3-1) this season, recording a hat trick in each outing. Jack Bruckner and Deemer Class both added four points from three goals and an assist, while freshman Jake Seau recorded his first career points with a goal and an assist. Danowski became the second Division I head coach and the fourth coach across all three divisions to reach the 350-win benchmark. He is 350-172 for his career and an impressive 131-33 at Duke. The Blue Devils got off to a bit of a slow start, needing 7:37 before senior captain Will Haus capitalized on a Mercer turnover to even the score 1-1 midway through the quarter. The Blue Devils added tallies from Jack Bruckner and Seamus Connelly over the next five minutes to grab a 3-1 lead. The Bears capitalized on a man-up opportunity before the end of the 1st quarter to make it one-goal game at the first break. Rookie Justin Guterding struck quickly to start the second quarter to spark a 6-1 run that sent Duke into halftime with a 9-3 lead. Five different players scored and four of the six goals were assisted during the spurt, including one from Seau for his first career point. Jones assisted on two and scored one to lead the charge overall in the big second quarter. Dukes offense continued to roll in the second half, stretching the lead to seven goals, 12-5 after three quarters. Tanner Scott sandwiched his third score of the year between a pair of strikes from Jones in the third. Class and Jones connected for the second time on the afternoon to start the fourth quarter, while Seau and Shaffer broke through with their first goals of the season to complete the scoring for the day in the 10-goal victory. Kyle Rowe took 20 draws for the Blue Devils, winning 10 and picking up three ground balls. Sophomore Brian Dunne registered four caused turnovers to lead the defensive charge. Duke won the ground ball battle 30-22. Mercer goaltender Mike Nugent made 22 stops for the Bears. Duke continues its three-game road swing at Stony Brook Feb. 22. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m., with the Sea Wolves. #GoDuke
