Providence, R.I. – The second-ranked Brown (13-1, 6-0 Ivy) men's lacrosse team tied the school record for wins and earned its first outright Ivy League Championship since 1994 with a 16-3 win over Dartmouth (1-13, 0-6 Ivy) Wednesday evening at Stevenson-Pincince Field. <p> Junior All-American attackman Dylan Molloy (Setauket, NY), the country's leader in points and one of the nation's top candidates for the Tewaarton Award, sparked the Bears with five goals and one assist. <p> Brown's 13 wins tied the school record, equaling the all-time mark of 13 wins by Bears' squads in 1966, 1991 and 1994. <p> The victory over the Big Green also gives Brown its 10th Ivy men's lacrosse title and first perfect 6-0 Ivy League since 1994. Brown teams in 1973, 1985 and 1991 have also posted perfect Ivy records. <p> There's no rest for the weary as the Bears face Virginia and former Bears' head coach Dom Starsia on Saturday, April 30 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium in Kennesaw, GA, as part of the ACC Tournament weekend, playing their fifth game in 19 days. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm. <p> Brown senior attackman Henry Blynn (Villanova, PA) scored four goals, including his 100th career goal, while senior attackman Kylor Bellistri (Potomac, MD), the nation's leading goal scorer, added two goals and two assists. Brown once again dominated the face-off x, winning 21-of-23 face-offs. Senior Will Gural (Haverford, PA) captured 17-of-18 face-offs, while sophomore Ted Ottens (Wilton, CT) won 3-of-3 face-offs. <p> Senior All-American goalie Jack Kelly (West Islip, NY) also stood out for the Bears, making seven saves, while allowing just one goal, before retiring after three quarters of play. <p> In the battle of the trenches, Brown had a 53-24 advantage in ground balls, led by Gural and junior All-American long stick middy Larken Kemp (Greenwich, CT) with 10 ground balls each. Kemp also added three caused turnovers. Brown out-shot the Big Green by a 48-20 margin. <p> It was also Senior Day for Brown's 10 seniors - Bellistri, Blynn, Brendan Caputo (Westbury, NY), Matt Graham (Amityville, NY), Gural, Kelly, James Lawrence (Minneapolis, MN), Todd Stewart (Toronto, Ontario), Bailey Tills (Denver, CO) and John Yozzo-Scaperrotta (Dobbs Ferry, NY) - who were honored in a pre-game ceremony. <p> With the outright Ivy title on the line and the emotion of Senior Day, the Bears seemed to save some opening game jitters. Brown scored first on a Blynn goal before Dartmouth's Jack Korzelius answered for the Big Green with 10:15 left in the opening quarter to tie the game, 1-1. <p> Caputo gave Brown the lead for good, 2-1, with 8:43 left in the quarter. His goal sparked a 14-0 Brown run that ran into the fourth quarter to give the Bears a 15-1 lead, keeping the Big Green scoreless for over 48 minutes. <p> During that span, Brown exploded for nine third quarter goals, including three by Molloy to salt the game away. <p> After playing Virginia, Brown will host the Ivy League Men's Lacrosse Tournament for the second straight year at Stevenson-Pincince Field. The tournament starts with a Semifinal doubleheader on Friday, May 6 (5:00 pm and 8:00 pm) and the Championship game on Sunday, May 8 (12:00 noon). Both semifinal games will be televised on ESPN3 with the Championship on ESPNU. The winner of the Ivy Tournament will earn the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
