POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Behind a career-high 19 saves from senior goalie Dave Scarcello (Buffalo, N.Y.), the Marist men's lacrosse team (3-1) preserved a 10-9 win over High Point in the first meeting between the two schools March 7 in Tenney Stadium. Scarcello added his first career assist on a score from senior Colin Joka (Conshohocken, Pa.) with 4:48 left in the third quarter. Seniors Drew Nesmith (Montclair, N.J.) and Mike Begley (Brookeville, Md.) each posted hat tricks, as half of the Red Foxes' goals were unassisted. Nesmith scored the first two goals of the contest, but High point ended the first quarter on a 3-0 run to take a 4-3 lead. Begley's second goal of the game with 4:32 remaining in the second quarter sent both teams to the locker rooms at halftime tied at five. The Red Foxes took command of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Panthers 5-1. Joka netted both of his goals during the scoring spree, his final one givig Marist its largest lead of the contest. High Point inched back into the game with the help of junior Matt Thistle, who scored a game-high four goals. Panthers' senior goalie Austin Geisler scooped up a team-high nine ground balls and made nine saves. On the defense unit, Marist killed 1:30 of a Panthers' power play in the first quarter. The Red Foxes went 10-for-10 on clear attempts in the second half and caused six turnovers in the entire game. Marist concludes its three-game road trip March 14 when it faces Monmouth to open up Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Tenney Stadium.
