HAMDEN, Conn. Another five point afternoon from Ryan Keenan (Oshawa, Ontario) was not enough for the Quinnipiac men's lacrosse team on a snowy Saturday, as the Bobcats fell in MAAC action to Marist College, 17-10, at the QU Lacrosse Turf Complex in Hamden. With the loss, Quinnipiac drops to 1-2 in league play while the visiting Red Foxes remain unbeaten, moving to 3-0 in the conference. Keenan matched his output from last weekend, totaling four goals and an assist in the game hitting on all four of his shot attempts. Michael Sagl (West Islip, N.Y.) scored once and dished out three assists, extending his point streak to 40 straight games dating back to the 2012 campaign. Kevin Diehl (Towson, Md.) and Adam Bellamy (St. Catharines, Ontario) each had two goals, and Brian Feldman (Canandaigua, N.Y.) had one goal and an assist. Pat Corcoran (Stratford, Conn.), Riley Palmer (Oshawa, Ontario) and David Glynn (Lake Forest, Ill.) each had an assist. Every player would attest that the weather certainly made today's match difficult to play in. Snow came down sideways for much of the game, leaving a slick surface and wet pockets. Nonetheless, Marist and its high-octane attack coped a tad better and escaped with the road victory. After 15 minutes of play, Marist had a mere two-goal advantage due to a pair of goals towards the end of the first quarter. Quinnipiac jumped out in front behind goals from Kevin Diehl and Feldman, but surrendered three straight through the middle minutes of the frame. Bellamy scored his first of the game to bring the score even, 3-3, but Marist struck twice in the final 1:22 to take a 5-3 lead into the second quarter. Quinnipiac scored two of the game's next three goals, Bellamy netting his second and Sagl scoring his only goal at the 12:56 mark in the second quarter. That's when Marist's offense caught fire, rattling off eight straight goals to close the half. Quinnipiac went scoreless for nearly 13 minutes, leaving a 14-6 advantage for the visitors at halftime. Action settled down in the third and fourth quarters, as Marist slowed the tempo to let time tick away. Quinnipiac scored the lone goal in the third frame, Keenan scoring his first of the game. The Bobcats chipped away at the deficit, pulling to within six when Keenan netted his third goal, but Marist controlled possession in the waning minutes to hold off the late rally. Marist was terrific on the faceoff, claiming a 25-6 advantage from the X. Marist mustered 50 shots in the game and went 3-for-6 on the man-up. The Red Foxes, now 6-3 overall on the season, were led by Joseph Radin and Colin Joka. They each had seven points, Radin getting three goals and four assists and Joka finishing with seven goals. JD Recor had two goals and three assists and Drew Nesmith had two goals and an assist. Dave Scarcello was in net for Marist, totaling nine saves in his sixth win of the season. In goal for the Bobcats, Colin Nesdale (Cheshire, Conn.) and Jack Brust (Baltimore, Md.) combined for 17 saves. Brust, who had missed the previous two games with an injury, made 16 of the saves after coming on in the second quarter. The Quinnipiac men's lacrosse program is working in conjunction with Unite for HER, a foundation founded by Susan Weldon - the mother of senior defenseman Evan Weldon - focused on supporting women diagnosed with breast cancer.
