The first half flurry came in the form of four goals in a 2:44 stretch midway through the first quarter. Both set the tone for the afternoon. Ryan Ambler scored four goals, Mike MacDonald had a five-point day and Sam Bonafede won 9 of 11 face-offs to lead Princeton to a 14-4 win over Manhattan in front of 672 fans at Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium. The game was played in temperatures in the 20s and steadily falling snow that began in the third quarter and coated the field by the end of the fourth quarter. Princeton led 5-0 at the end of the first quarter and 14-2 at the end of three. PLAYER OF THE GAME - Ambler's four goals were one off his career high and MacDonald's five points (two goals, three assists) came after he missed the entire fall after having surgery on both of his hips. The player of the game, though, was the freshman Bonafede, whose 9 for 11 face-off wins helped Princeton dominate possession and whose five ground balls were a team high. FIRST-TIMERS - Princeton had three sophomores score their first career goals, including Bear Altemus, who also happened to score the first goal of the season for Princeton. Altemus, who played in just two games a year ago, got the first Princeton goal, which came 6:44 into the first quarter. He would be joined by in the goal column by classmates Gavin McBride (two goals) and Adam Hardej (one goal, one assist). The three combined for four goals and an assist on 13 shots after having no goals, no assists and four shots between them for their entire freshman year. FIRST QUARTER RUN - Altemus broke the ice with his goal and started the four-goal, 2:44 run as Altemus was followed by Zach Currier, McBride and then Ambler. Jake Froccaro assisted on three of the four goals in that stretch to tie his career high. Currier and McBride would each have two goals for the day. STREAKS - Kip Orban kept alive the nation's longest streak of consecutive games with at least one goal. The senior captain and Major League Lacrosse draftee scored twice on the day, giving him at least one goal in 27 straight. Orban and MacDonald also extended their streaks of consecutive games with at least one point to 29 straight, tied for the 11th longest in Division I. SAVES - Eric Sanschagrin allowed two goals and made nine saves while playing the first three quarters in goal. Sanschagrin has finished the last two years as Princeton's starter but never started a game in the first half of a season before this one. NOTES - MacDonald tied Jeff Froccaro for 17th all-time in goals at Princeton with 86 and moved within two points of Taylor Simmers for 18th all-time at Princeton in points with 135 ... Princeton is now 12-0 all-time against the MAAC, including 6-0 against Manhattan ... Princeton outshot Manhattan 47-31, including 41-18 for the first three quarters ... Princeton was 14 for 14 on clears ... In addition to the two goals and three assists, MacDonald also caused three turnovers on rides ... Every healthy Princeton player appeared in the game ...
