ITHACA, N.Y. – The fourth-ranked Ithaca College men's lacrosse team continued to assert itself as one of the top teams in the country on Wednesday when it returned to the road to battle Oswego State in a blustery mid-afternoon tilt. The Bombers pulled away early and held a comfortable lead throughout in dispatching the Lakers 17-6 to move to 3-0 on the season. Fresh off of being named Empire 8 and USILA/BSN Division III North Offensive Player of the Week, Jack Shumway was the fuel that powered the IC offensive surge. The senior attacker registered eight points on seven goals and one assist, moving into eighth place on the program's all-time list with 116 career tallies for his career. Sophomore Will Witter added three points on a goal and two assists, while juniors Stephen Morrell and Jake Cotton each chipped in two points on two goals and two assists, respectively. Fellow third-year midfielder Greg Drillock also scored two points on a goal and an assist. Ithaca's outstanding depth was also put on display, as six other players netted goals for the Bombers. Matt Montgomery, Sean Ferrito, Connor Hulme, Brendan King, Conner Crosson and Kevin Enos each scored a goal for IC on the afternoon. Senior goaltender Jack Deragon got his third consecutive start in the IC cage and continued to perform admirably. He finished with eight saves and just three goals allowed through the first three quarters to pick up his third victory of the year. Freshman Robby Atwood took over the net for the final quarter, finishing with two stops. Although Oswego State broke the ice on the scoreboard with a goal from Ryan Jelen to put the Lakers ahead 2:17 into the game, IC responded with a significant scoring streak to break things wide open. The Bombers scored nine straight goals spanning the remainder of the first quarter and most of the second quarter to take a commanding 9-1 lead. Shumway sparked the run with two straight goals just 3:03 apart to lift IC to a lead it would never relinquish with 5:15 remaining in the opening quarter. The lead swelled to 6-1 before the end of the first, as Crosson netted his first of the season at 4:21. Shumway added three more tallies over the final 3:13 of the period. Continuing the scoring run was King during the second quarter, as he fired in a laser shot just 32-seconds into the frame. Morrell scored both of his goals to cap the lengthy scoring run for the Bombers. Despite the commanding lead for IC, the Lakers carried a little bit of momentum in the halftime break with the final two goals of the opening 30 minutes. Mark Niechcial and Caleb Alford bested Deragon over the final 2:37 of the second quarter to cut the Oswego deficit to 9-3 at the half. Ithaca made sure any momentum was swung back in its favor with a dominant third quarter. Ithaca held possession for most of the frame, shutting out the Lakers 4-0 to take a 10-goal lead into the final quarter. Shumway netted his final two goals of the afternoon, while Witter and Drillock each found the back of the net during the frame. With the contest well in-hand, head coach Jeff Long, who picked up his 302nd win on the day, thrust several reserves into action to begin the fourth. Ithaca outscored Oswego State 4-3 in the final frame with Hulme, Ferrito and Montgomery scoring three straight for IC to up the advantage to as wide as 16-4. Enos capped the scoring for IC with 3:46 remaining, netting his first career collegiate goal. Ithaca performed well at the 'X' winning 15-of-27 faceoffs in the game. Senior Grant Osadchey went 11-19 in the circle, while junior Steven Landspurg finished 4-for-7 on draws. Defensively, the Bombers were paced by Cody Swing who finished with three caused turnovers and two ground-balls. Keith Morrissey added five ground-balls for IC.
