Greenville, S.C. – Furman fell behind early and could never recover, as Lehigh downed the Paladins, 15-7, on Saturday in Paladin Stadium. The win moves the Mountain Hawks to 2-1 on the year, while the loss drops Furman to 0-3. Furman was led offensively by Scott Primeau and Matthew VanGalen, each tallying two goals, while David Williamson, Jonah Moore, and Matt Geran each added one. Face-off specialist Hil Blaze had arguably his best game of the year, winning 17 of 25 faceoffs and picking up a team-high eight ground balls. Lehigh was led by Reid Weber and Tristan Rai, each turning in four goals, while goalie Adam Sawicki made 15 saves for the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh came out on the attack, taking a 6-0 lead after the first quarter, despite the Paladins winning 4-7 faceoff chances. Furman rallied, however, using a goal from Scott Primeau to cut the lead to 6-1 with 9:33 remaining. The Paladins continued to chip away at the lead, using a goal from Matt VanGalen on an assist by Gus Pinsoneault to cut the lead to 6-2. Primeau then netted his second goal of the day to cut the lead to 6-3 just 21 seconds later. VanGalen then scored a behind-the-back, SportsCenter worthy goal to cut the lead to 6-4 with 5:45 left in the half. Lehigh extended the lead to three, however, using Tristan Rai's second goal of the day to give the Mountain Hawks a 7-4 lead heading into halftime. The second half opened much like the first, with Lehigh netting five-straight goals to take a 12-4 advantage. Freshman David Williamson scored his first goal of the day with 32 seconds remaining in the quarter to cut the lead to 12-5 heading into the fourth. The Mountain Hawks opened the fourth quarter with a man-down goal, before Jonah Moore recorded his fourth goal of the season to cut the lead to 13-6 with 12:21 to go. Lehigh added two more goals before Matt Geran netted his first of the season to cut the lead to 15-7 with 1:40 remaining. The Paladins are back in action on Saturday, March 5, traveling to Mt. St. Mary's for a 12:00 p.m. contest.
