Dylan Donohue tallied nine points on four goals and five assists to lead No. 7/5 Syracuse past Siena Lacrosse 18-5 in the Carrier Dome in the season-opener for both teams. Freshmen accounted for three of Siena’s five goals, with midfielder Eric Munn leading the way with two scores to go along with three groundballs and two caused turnovers in his collegiate debut. Meeting in the Carrier Dome for the third straight season opener between the programs, Syracuse scored the first 10 goals. Sophomore midfielder Brian Prunty secured the Saints’ first score of 2016 with 51.3 seconds left in the half and Siena trailed 10-1 at the break. The Orange scored the first four goals of the second half in building their lead to as many as 13 to open their 100th Anniversary season victorious. Syracuse held a 41-17 advantage in shots, 41-23 margin in groundballs and won 20 of 27 faceoffs. Junior midfielder Jon-Michael Tokar tallied a goal and an assist and freshman attack Mike Reilly rounded out the scoring with his first collegiate goal for Siena which fell to 2-19 all-time against USILA Top-20 opponents. Senior captain Tommy Cordts played the first three quarters and made four saves in goal, adding three groundballs for the Saints which were opening their season against a top-10 ranked team for the sixth time in the past eight years. Siena won the turnover battle, forcing Syracuse into 18 miscues on the strength of nine caused turnovers. Junior defenseman Joe Arcarese led the way, picking up three groundballs and tying a career-high with three caused turnovers to move into a tie for eighth place all-time in program history in the statistic (23). Tim Barber added five points for the Orange and was one of six players to score multiple goals for Syracuse which improved to 21-1 all-time in season-openers in the Carrier Dome. For the second year in a row the Saints will spend their Spring Break in Georgia.
