PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The eighth-seeded Syracuse men's lacrosse team was unable to overcome its four-goal halftime deficit, falling to top-seeded Maryland by the final score of 13-7 at Brown University in the NCAA quarterfinals. Despite Syracuse (12-5) outshooting Maryland (16-2) 40-31 in the contest and dominating the Terrapins with a 38-23 mark in ground balls, Maryland goalkeeper Kyle Bernlohr kept the Orange out of the net, as the Terps netminder finished with a game-high 16 total saves to advance past 'Cuse. Senior Tim Barber led the Orange offensive attack, finishing with two goals, an assist and a game-high five ground balls, while Ben Williams was dominant at the faceoff X, winning 13-of-16 at one point, to finish 15-of-24 on the game. For Maryland, Matt Rambo and Dylan Maltz combined for seven of the Terps' 13 goals. Barber scored the game's first goal with a nifty move behind the cage to put 'Cuse up 1-0, but then it was all Maryland for the rest of the first. The Terps scored four-straight goals to close the period, not without Orange chances though, Dylan Donahue hit three posts in the first period alone. Maryland managed to tack on its four goals from four different players. Connor Kelly, Rambo, Pat Young and Maltz managed to score in the first. Maltz then opened the second quarter with a goal to take a 5-1 lead, but a good ride after a Kyle Bernlohr save got 'Cuse the ball back and Barber finished in the doorstep for his second goal of the day. Maltz answered right back with another goal to up the lead to four again, however Sergio Salcido found Nate Solomon on the doorstep to keep the game going back and forth. But Rambo scored his second of the game from behind the cage for Syracuse trailing by four for a second-straight week. The Orange looked to answer their deficit early in the third quarter, but instead Maryland extended its lead to five when it was Young beating Molloy to make it 8-3. Syracuse found life soon after the Young goal by rattling off two straight to pull back within three. Matt Lane scored the fourth Syracuse goal at the 9:12 mark, which was followed up by the seventh goal of the season from freshman Devin Shewell with eight minutes left in the third. After an Orange penalty, Maryland made the best of its man-up opportunity. Rambo netted his third strike of the afternoon to put the Terps back up by four with 6:01 remaining in the third quarter. Salcido then scored his lone goal of the contest with 1:50 left on the clock in the third, sending the Orange into the fourth quarter down 9-6. Nate Solomon scored the lone goal for Syracuse in the fourth at the 11:18 mark, as the Terps found the back of the net four times to defeat the Orange 13-7. In net, Evan Molloy finished with four saves, while Brandon Mullins' three caused turnovers and three ground balls anchored the Orange defense in his final game. 'Cuse's season concludes with a 12-5 record and its second-consecutive ACC Championship. GAME NOTES: Dylan Donahue recorded his 56th-consecutive game with a point, which leads the nation ...
