THE LEAD: Parker Giarratana found the back of the net for the fifth time on the afternoon, scoring 50 seconds in to the second overtime period to lead visiting Manhattan past the University of Hartford men's lacrosse team in a 14-13 slugfest on Tuesday afternoon. The attackman added two assists in the contest to finish with a game-high seven points as the Jaspers snapped Hartford's three-game winning streak in the series at Al-Marzook Field. Junior Griffin Feiner was one of three Hawks to net a hat trick, adding two assists to lead the team with five points. Classmate Justin Huggins and sophomore Dylan Jinks also tallied three goals in the defeat for Hartford. THE TURNING POINT: Feiner and Brown provided the Hawks with a two-goal cushion heading down the stretch, delivering a pair of strikes within a 67-second stretch to give Hartford a 13-11 edge with 2:27 left. But that lead was spoiled by Giarratana, as he scored with 2:20 remaining before striking again with the equalizer with just two seconds to go in regulation. Despite four quality looks in overtime, the Hawks were unable to capitalize for the go-ahead goal, setting the scene for Giarratana's game-winner with 3:10 left in the second overtime session. HOW IT HAPPENED: Hartford's offense was rolling early, as the Hawks jumped out to a 7-2 lead with 10:23 left in the second quarter. Jinks contributed the first two goals of the game, while Henderson provided the Hawks with their largest lead of the afternoon with his second goal of the season in the opening part of the second. The Jaspers clawed back in the game, scoring four unanswered within a four-minute stretch to pull within one (7-6) with 2:31 to go before halftime. Stopping the run with a Jinks goal – his third of the game – with 1:44 remaining, the Hawks regained a three-goal edge in the early minutes of the third, following a marker from Feiner. That edge was not enough, though, as Manhattan put together another run. Four different players contributed to a 4-0 spurt, with Matt Garvey giving the Jaspers their first lead of the afternoon, 10-9, in the final minute of the third. With 9:02 remaining in regulation, Hartford, which faced an 11-10 deficit, rallied for three-straight goals to regain the edge. Huggins started the spurt, tying up the game at 11-all with 8:13 left before Feiner and Brown each scored within a 67-second stretch. The two-goal cushion was again not enough, as Giarratana came up huge for Manhattan in the closing minutes. Pulling the Jaspers within one with 2:20 left, he found the back of the net with two seconds to go to tie things up. The Hawks held the upperhand during the entire first overtime period, but it was Manhattan that prevailed in the second. Following a costly Hartford turnover out of a faceoff win, the Jaspers called for timeout before Giarratana propelled the visiting team to the win with 3:10 left on the clock. INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Hartford held an edge in shots (45-41), including a 4-1 advantage in the first overtime session. The Hawks, who also held advantages in ground balls (33-23) and faceoff wins (19-11), went 12-of-13 in clears. Protesto went 18-for-28 at the X, recording a season-high 12 ground balls. Quinn posted a career high in saves on Tuesday, finishing with 13. Zingaro, his counterpart, collected 12 stops for the Jaspers as both sides came up with some spectacular saves between the pipes. Biondi, Brown, Hnederson and Dulin rounded out the scoring for the Hawks while Garvey added three goals for Manhattan. NEXT ON TAP: The final date of Hartford's two-game homestand pits the Hawks up against Jacksonville on Saturday, March 4. The first-ever meeting between the Hawks and Dolphins is slated to begin at 12 noon.
