STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - No. 16 Rutgers men's lacrosse controlled gameplay Tuesday afternoon en route to a 15-7 win at Wagner. The victory pushed RU's record to 4-0 to begin the season. Jules Heningburg led the way with four goals and an assist on the day. He was joined by startering attackers Scott Bieda (three goals, one assist) and Adam Charalambides (two goals, three assists) in the game. RU held a 37-31 advantage in ground balls and forced 18 Wagner turnovers. The Scarlet Knights were perfect on clears (14-of-14) for a second straight game. "I thought it was a very strong perfomance for our defense today," head coach Brian Brecht explained. "They did a great job in their matchups. That was a big game from Kris Alleyne, making 13 saves, we're proud of how he did in the cage. The defense helped push transition to our attack unit, and we did a good job of capitalizing on those opportunities. It was a good win in the midweek, and now we'll put this one to bed quickly and get ready for Monmouth on Saturday." Rutgers got the game's first goal, with Heningburg tallying in the first 30 seconds of action. Wagner answered back to tie the game. After a tally from Charalambides was waived off, it was Casey Rose who scored to give RU a 2-1 lead. That lead would hold through the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was dominated by the visitors, as Rutgers outscored Wagner 7-0 in the frame. Bieda extended the lead to 4-1 with a highlight goal, diving backwards and firing the ball in over his head. Each of the starting attack scored twice in the frame, along with a goal from Franckowiak, to give the Scarlet Knights a 9-1 halftime lead. Wagner crept back with three goals in the third stanza. However, Heningburg and Christian Trasolini scored to put the Scarlet Knights ahead 11-4 at the final break. Freshman Josh Jordan scored the first two goals of his career in the fourth quarter, and Bieda and Ryan Hollingsworth also scored in the frame for a 15-7 final. Next up for the Scarlet Knights is a trip to Monmouth Saturday. Game time is 2 p.m. Postgame Notes Rutgers has scored 59 goals on the season, an average of 14.75 per game.
