WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Freshman Ryan Hilburn notched his second straight hat trick and six different Terriers found the back of the net, but the Boston University men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-8 decision at No. 15 Army on Saturday afternoon at Michie Stadium. BU is now 6-4 overall and 3-3 in the Patriot League while Army improved to 8-3 and 4-2 in the conference. The Terriers tied the game, 1-1, in the first quarter before a five-goal run by the Black Knights in the opening 15 minutes gave them the lead for good. HIlburn also had an assist for a four-point afternoon. Freshmen Jack Wilson, Hayden Ruiz and Greg Farris each scored for the Terriers while sophomores Adam Schaal and Pat Myers also found the back of the net. Schaal added two assists while Myers also had a helper. Sophomore Cal Dearth had a pair of assists and was one of four Terriers with multiple points. Freshman Colin MacDougall made his second straight start and stopped 11 shots. Classmate Tommy Connelly relieved him late in the fourth quarter and collected one save. Junior Elliott Burr was a career-best 11-of-19 at the faceoff X and sophomore Sam Talkow won two draws as well. Burr finished with six ground balls as part of his career day. Sophomores Dominick Calisto and Jake Dansey each gathered four ground balls with Dansey also forcing two turnovers. Army opened the scoring 1:55 into the proceedings, but Wilson tied the game exactly two minutes later when he came out of X, quickly turned and fired a shot into the top left corner. Army then scored the final five goals of the quarter to take a 6-1 lead after 15 minutes. BU responded in the second quarter with two quick goals to cut the deficit to 6-3. Myers opened with an unassisted goal before Schaal found Hilburn cutting to the cage and the freshman converted. Connor Cook made it 7-3 before Hilburn and Schaal connected for the second time in the quarter. Hilburn was the feeder this time and he used a brilliant cross-crease pass to find Schaal at the left post for the sophomore's 17th goal of the season. The Black Knights tallied the final three goals of the half, including one with 1.7 seconds on the clock to take a 10-4 lead into the break. Army then scored all six goals in the third quarter to extend its advantage to 16-4. Ruiz's 11th goal of the season sparked a 3-0 run for the Terriers to start the fourth quarter. Myers had the assist for that goal. Dearth then found Hilburn with a great pass, and Hilburn did well at the top of the crease to fake Sam Somers out and score. Freshman Greg Farris then scored thanks to Schaal's second assist of the day to cut the deficit to 16-7, but BU was unable to extend the run right away as Somers came up with a save on the Terriers' next possession. Dearth found Hilburn on a similar look as the earlier goal in the quarter for the freshman's 18th goal of the year. Army added a final marker with 2:16 remaining in regulation to close the scoring. BU will begin a three-game homestand on Tuesday with a non-conference contest against Harvard at Nickerson Field. Opening faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
