CAMBRIDGE, Mass. The Harvard men's lacrosse team and No. 10/9 Albany played a thriller on Wednesday night at Soldiers Field Lacrosse Stadium as the teams combined for 39 goals, but in the end it was the Great Danes who came out on top, edging the Crimson by a 21-18 margin. Bryan Moore made a career-high 23 saves against the nation's highest-scoring offense, turning aside seven shots in the first quarter, four in the second, nine in the third and three in the fourth. Moore's 23 saves stand as the second-highest total in the NCAA this season, and are the most by an Ivy Leaguer since Dartmouth's Fergus Campbell stopped 23 shots versus Cornell on April 3, 2010. A trio of Crimson registered a hat trick in the loss, led by Ian Ardrey's four-goal performance. Will Walker tallied three goals and one assist, Tim Edmonds notched three goals, and Devin Dwyer contributed a total of three points (1g, 2a) to extend his point-scoring streak to 28 games and move himself into fifth place in Harvard history with 85 career helpers. Albany (6-1) was led by reigning Tewaaraton Award winner Lyle Thompson who turned in nine goals and three assists. Connor Russell won 24-of-42 face offs to help control possession, and Blaze Riorden made 14 saves in goal. The pace was set early as Edmonds put Harvard (4-5) on the board just 53 seconds in. Keegan Michel followed up for a 2-0 lead, and after strikes from Joe Lang and Ardrey the Crimson held a 4-1 edge. Albany countered and eventually pulled within 7-6, but a Walker score regained a two-goal margin midway through the second period, 8-6. The Great Danes did eventually tie the score at 8-8 before Edmonds' third goal of the half put Harvard back on top, 9-8. Albany rallied before the half was through, however, evening things up again at 9-9. Albany took its first lead with consecutive goals to begin the third quarter, 11-9, but Harvard bounced back to make it a 12-12 game off strikes by Walker Kirby and Dwyer. The teams exchanged four-goal runs from there, with the Great Danes first going ahead 16-12 before Michel's second of the day brought the score even once more, 16-16, with 13:46 to play. Albany pulled away with a 5-0 stretch, taking a 21-16 advantage with just 2:38 to play. Sean Coleman and Ardrey found the back of the net in the waning moments, but time expired before Harvard could pull any closer, giving the Great Danes the 21-18 victory.
