DURHAM, N.C. Freshman attackman Justin Guterding posted six goals while senior faceoff specialist Jack Rowe won 18-of-20 draws as No. 6 Duke defeated visiting Providence, 20-8, on Sunday evening in Durham, N.C. The win marks Dukes 20th straight home victory and the Blue Devils will attempt to match the school record of 21 on Saturday against Loyola. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m., and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3. The Blue Devils (5-1) jumped on the Friars (2-2) early by scoring four goals in the first four minutes of the contest. Duke built a 13-2 lead at intermission. Seven different Blue Devils scored in the opening half with Deemer Class and Guterding throwing in three apiece. Duke received a three-goal, three-assist outing from Class as he became the 45th player in school history to reach the 100-point plateau. In 47 career games, the Baltimore, Md., native has 62 goals and 42 assists for 104 points. Additionally, Myles Jones chipped in three goals and one helper while Chad Cohan and Jack Bruckner posted two goals each. Rowe, in addition to his 18 faceoff wins and 13 ground balls registered his first career point with an assist to Bruckner in the first quarter. Rookie Matthew Giampetroni and junior Alex Prezioso tallied their first career goals, while Peter Welch dished out his first career assist. In goal, starter Luke Aaron made four saves while Danny Fowler was credited with seven stops. Kyle Rowe went 4-of-6 at the X and picked up four ground balls. Duke finished with a commanding 42-19 edge in ground balls. Guterding, who had six goals and three assists in Dukes win over Harvard yesterday, now leads the Blue Devils with 26 goals on the year. With his three-goal outing versus Providence, Jones has scored three-plus goals in five of Dukes six games this season. Providence, coached by former Blue Devil assistant Chris Gabrielli, was paced by Buck McClures two goals and one assist while Greg Fitzmaurice contributed a pair of tallies. Friar goalkeeper Peter Badgley carded 11 saves.
