Props to Army; Shameful Syracuse

This certainly was a strange game, I've never seen a slower game in my life with the exception of maybe the Hopkins-Duke Championship game.

First off, great job, Army's defense. They played very well 1-1, slid well, and their doubles were fast and effective. Fullerton got hot early and just kept denying SU shooters, especially since their placement and shot selection was poor at best. SU's defense did not play terribly, but some of their poles got toasted 1-1 and allowed costly goals. Pete C. played solid but not spectacularly, and should have made one or two more saves, but thats neither here nor there.

SU's offense was puzzling. Army did a tremendous job not allowing their shooters to get their hands free and shoot on the run, and it was wise to put a pole on Pat Perritt, he was silent all game and a complete non-factor. However, I can't grasp how SU can only come away with 4 goals in the first half and not make any significant adjustments for the second half. It was a poor, poor offensive performance.

The one things SU can take away from the game are Jon Jerome's performance at the face-off X, and Kyle Guadagnolo's overall performance. He was all over the place, throwing nasty, effective checks. It reminded me of those great SU defenders of old like Glatzel and Abrams.

With Hopkins losing to Albany, the stage is set for an absolutely bizarre and incredibly exciting, wide-open season. The Faceoff Classic next weekend will really show what "The Big 4" are made of.
