Hey, Navy has been close several times recently!
by Naptown Fan on April 6, 2007 @12:02:30 PM

Think about how close Navy has played Hopkins since 2000 several times. In 2000, Hopkins won in overtime. In 2004 and 2005, Hopkins won in overtime. In 2006, Hopkins won by 1 goal. I don't think Navy can get much closer than that without winning. If they have been that close, why do you say they will never win.

Yes, you are right that Navy would likely lose to several of those teams you mentioned above. However, one must remember that, although Navy usually has a few studs(ie. Mickey Jarboe, Adam Borcz, Ian Digman, Matt Russell), all together, they never have as much overall talent as any of those teams. If you think about it, what Navy has done in lacrosse recently is amazing! Why? Because Navy is not nearly as easy a sell for top talent as Hopkins and the other schools you mentioned. Will they ever win a national title? Maybe not(Hey, they lost by 1 goal to 'Cuse in the title game in 2004, though!). However, it is very special when you see a team in sports, or a rock band or anything, do more with less. UVA is by far the easiest sell for talent in this day and age. Take nothing away from Dom Starsia, but being at such an easy sell at UVA makes it more of a chore not to win than to win.

I think that Richie Meade and Coach Tillman, his top assistant, are doing outstanding jobs and I hope they stay around for a long time.
