A few thoughts on last nights game...

First of all this one was all about Peter Coluccini. If you didn't see the game I can't even explain to you how amazing this kid played. He really didn't let in any bad goals, he got left hanging a few times with hard shots in close but a few of his saves were just sick. At the 11:30 mark of the 4th quarter he made a 1 on 1 save that I still can't explain how he did it. Everybody in my section just looked at each other like 'what just happened' becuase we didn't even know he had the ball and then he stood up with it and pretty much shocked everybody. Great game for him.
Another thing was SU's face off man, Danny Brennan . I'm not sure if he's just really good or Albany's guy is not but this kid was insane. The guy won 21 of 29 draws and even the ones he lost, most he still won the draw but got beat on the ground ball. He did make a few poor decisions with the ball once he had it but still, they couldn't have won without what he did.
I thought Panarelli played very careful on D. Not sure if he's still thinking about the Cornell game but he didn't throw much at his men. He did do a good job though on albany's jordan levine. I don't think that kid did anything from up top when being guarded by #11.
The game was very streaky. The first few minutes in the opening quarter were very close and then the rest of the game was all about big runs by both teams. A lot of times I though SU was going to pull away but the Danes fought back pretty hard. Its kinda weird watching albany. I think they're the most unsmooth team I've ever seen ranked so high. They kinda looked like a bunch of scrubs but then they just start pumping goals and really surprise you. Their D actually did a pretty good job. For the amount of talent that SU has individually, they did a great job 1 on 1. They did make some pretty bad turnovers but I think that could be chalked up to SU's riding.
All in all great game, good crowd. I think SU can really make some noise if they make the tourney which they'll probably do.
One last thought, and I can't stress this enough. Albany's goalie, Brett Queener, seriously, somebody has to make him loose those friggin peter pan football pants. Actually, no let him keep them becuase I heard so many funny comments in the crowd that it made my evening much more fun.
