Big Shoes to Fill ?

Once this season has ended at Byrd Stadium on Memorial Day Weekend, the search will officially begin to find the right man to take the Scarlet Knights into the new millenium. The vacant head coaching position at Rutgers should attract many big-time prospects due to the university's state-of-the-art facilities. Along with great facilities, the hosting of the NCAA Final Four Weekend at Rutgers University automatically guarantees major exposure to the program. While, at first, the pressure to win immediately at Rutgers may not be overwhelming, the potential for rapid growth and success within the program is present. Who will have the opportunity to succeed Hayes? Will New Jersey resident and long-time friend of Hayes, Chuck Apel, get a shot to continue coaching his graduated players? Or will major college coaches flood the market?

Scott Nelson (Nazereth) already coached at Rutgers in the early to mid 80's. He was a good coach then, and I'm sure he's much better now. Chuck's a good coach but Scott is already tested at the college level.

RU also needs to keep Andrew D. there as well. He's got great energy and personality, everybody likes him, and the players should want to win for him so that he doesn't hurt anybody.
